William Ruto’s Biography

Born in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya in December 1966, William Samoei Arap Ruto is today, the Deputy President of Kenya.

He attended a local primary school called Samburt before enrolling at Kapsabet Boys High School, then called Wareng Secondary School.

Thereafter, he joined the University of Nairobi, graduating four years later with a first-class honors degree in Botany and Zoology.

Prior to joining politics, William practiced teaching at Kamagut secondary school and Sirigoi secondary school.

He is a family man married to one wife, Rachael Ruto with six kids. He met his wife in the university while studying for a teaching profession.

His leadership skills started to manifest while at the university because his relationship with other students was superb. As a staunch Christian, he devoted most of his time practicing evangelism and choirmaster.

In the historic 2008 post-election violence in Kenya, William was named one of the suspects who organized the massacres. By then, he was regarded as a leader in his ethnic community from the then Rift valley province.
