Mike Sonko was born on 27th February 1975 in Mombasa. In his youth, he was involved in numerous crimes including mugging people on the streets of Mombasa and becoming an international drug dealer.
While a few people manage to escape from prison, he managed to escape from Shimo La Tewa prison twice! This one the most guarded prison in the Kenyan soil.
After completing his primary school education at Kikowani Primary School in Mombasa, he started getting involved in his father’s business, before joining Kwale High School.
While in high school, he continued working with his father and despite qualifying to join University, he decided to do a course in Business Administration and Management at Pwani University and Edexcel International School.
After joining politics, there was demand for him to have a degree, which was a requirement for all senior politicians, more especially if one aspired to run for the governorship in Kenya.
Therefore, he joined the Kenya Methodist University and graduated in the year 2015 with Bachelors in Business Administration.
Sonko was first elected through a by-election to represented the people of Makadara Constituency and was later re-elected into the same post after demonstrating that he cared for his people than his stomach!
After finishing his term, in 2013’s general election, he contested for Senator which he won to become the first Senator from Nairobi County.
