Justin Muturi Personal Life
Officially called Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi, JB as he is known in his social circles, was born in Mbeere in 1956 on 28th April. Today, Muturi is a household name in Kenyan politics.
He is and will be remembered as one of the most controversial Speakers in the history of the National Assembly of Kenya.
Before being elected by the National Assembly for the first time to serve as the sixth Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly on 28 March 2013, Justin had served in the same house as a Member of Parliament earlier.
In fact, he is the first Speaker to in the current bicameral Parliament since its reestablishment under the 2010 Constitution.
He narrowly won against the incumbent, Kenneth Marende of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after getting full support from members of the Jubilee Alliance Party. He managed to secure the position after flooring Marende a 10 vote margin of 219 to 229.
However, this came as a surprise because to many Kenyans, Marende, who had served as the fifth Speaker in in the same house, deserved a second chance for exhibiting a bipartisan approach while executing his responsibilities in the Kenyan National Parliamentary.

Little if not none of the information regarding the Speaker’s family has been brought to the limelight of the Kenyan public since Justin Muturi assumed the position of a senior public servant in the country. However, the fact remains that Muturi is a married man with children.
Justin Muturi Education
Muturi, the 7th Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, joined Kangaru Boys High School. He then pursued a Bachelor of Law degree in the School of Law at the University Of Nairobi (UON) from 1978 to 1981.
After graduating from UON, JB joined the Kenya School of Law, an institution from which he graduated with a Post Graduate diploma in Law. Upon acquiring his professional certificate, he became an advocate of the Kenyan High court after he was in 1982, admitted to the Bar.
The Speaker is amongst the popular alumni of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at the University of Nairobi.
As a Speaker and leader of the National Assembly of Kenya, JB is regarded one of the role models for many students at the University of Nairobi, particularly, in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Justin Muturi Professional career
Prior to joining politics, JB was an employee of the Kenyan Judiciary Service Commission. Between 1982 and 1997, he worked as a principal magistrate in the Law Courts of Kenya. He then retired from the judicial service to try his luck in politics.
But, the 63 year old JB did not retire from his occupation voluntarily. Instead, it was after being painted with a bad image following the bribery allegation of Ksh. 1 Million.
It was claimed that he demanded the bribe from a couple, Dr Godfrey Momanyi and his wife Felgone Akothe, who were also the proprietors of Masaba Hospital on July 1995 to influence a case arraigned before him. The National Hospital Insurance Fund had sued the duo for defrauding the company Ksh. 347,000.
While serving as a principal magistrate, Muturi also served as the chairman the Judges and Magistrates Association. He sat in other bodies including the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank, Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and Africa Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption.
Justin Muturi political career
JB was first elected to the National Assembly in the 1999 by-election to represent Siakago Constituent on the Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket following the death of sitting Member Parliament, Cyrus Ita early that year.
In the 2002 general Elections, he successfully defended his seat and was appointed by the 10th parliament to serve in various house committees and capacities. He was nominated to chair the Public Investment Committee and also as opposition chief whip.
In the next general election, in 2007, he tried to defend his seat again but was beaten by Lenny Kivuti. He tried his luck again in 2013 when he vied for the parliamentary seat for Mbeere North Constituency. This time round, he contested on the National Alliance party. Unfortunately, he lost again to Muriuki Njagagua.
Between 1999 and 2004, Muturi served in the constitutional review as one of the representatives of the Parliamentary Select Committee.
In November 2008, he was elected the Organizing Secretary for KANU before being nominated to chair the constitution committee from 2008 to 2010 during the national constitutional talks.
He was then appointed in 2011 to chair a civil society group called the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD). This was an advocacy group that deliberated on issues of democracy in multi-party politics.

According to various reliable sources, the Speaker net worth has significantly grown in 2018 but no exact figure is known. However, the annual salary earnings of the President of the Parliamentary Service Commission is approximated to be KSh. 12 million.
This figure comprise of his basic salary of about KSh. 420, 000 per month plus allowances and benefits accorded to the public servant serving in a similar position estimated at KSh. 1,400,000 monthly.
